Privacy & Data Security
Personal Data
Sadly, the world in which we live sees personal data as a commodity to be traded.
None of us, myself included, wants our personal data to be shared or sold without our consent, so I take privacy very seriously. I will never share your personal details with any other individual or organisation, unless compelled by law to do so. You can read my Privacy Notice here.
Your personal data will be retained in accordance with my Privacy Notice on my password-protected IT system, and backed up securely to an encrypted removable hard drive, which always remains on my premises. I never trust cloud-based storage areas with my own information, so why would I trust them with yours?
Documents
Any documents provided by you, whether for translation or for reference, are stored under the same conditions as personal data: on my premises and password-protected.
Documents you provide for the purposes of providing a quotation are deleted immediately if you decide not to proceed with the translation.
Documents you provide for the purposes of an agreed translation project are automatically deleted one month after delivery of the translation. The translation itself is deleted too.
Translation Memory
When I translate a document using a Computer Aided Translation (CAT) tool, my translations are normally added to a Translation Memory (TM) file. This stores the source phrase and the corresponding target translation. Not only does it help with the consistency and accuracy of the translation, it can also speed up and reduce the cost of this and future translation projects, especially where documents are simply updated to newer versions. However, if you wish me to delete the TM file when I deliver/delete your documents, please simply ask me to do so.
